Headteacher's Welcome

On behalf of the Northowram family, I would like to warmly welcome you to Northowram Primary School. I have worked at Northowram Primary school for over 12 years, leading the school through a journey of many exciting developments and changes including highly successful Ofsted Inspections (Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ June 2016). As a Headteacher with 25 years teaching and leadership experience in Calderdale schools, I know that our school is a very special place to learn and to work – with our talented pupils, hard-working staff, supportive parents and dedicated governing body, we go above and beyond to ensure that children have the highest quality education, an excellent curriculum including extensive extra-curricular activities, and a happy and safe Primary school experience.

Everything we do at Northowram helps us to deliver our school vision which is ‘Inspiring Success Beyond Expectation’. Success to us at Northowram means both academic and personal progress; it means achieving high academic results; it means providing opportunities for extraordinary sporting achievements and outstanding outcomes in performing and creative arts. It also means that through our inclusive school culture, the priority we place on developing nurturing staff-pupil relationships, our pastoral care and broad curriculum, we actively teach and help our pupils to learn, work and play showing the values that underpin our school – values of kindness and respect. Our children leave Northowram fully prepared for Secondary school and beyond with the solid foundation of skills, knowledge and values they will need to become happy and responsible future citizens of the world!

Northowram Primary School is a large two-form entry village school which means it is a vibrant and exciting place to learn and work. We are blessed with large school grounds and good facilities. I conduct regular tours for prospective new parents and, if you are considering choosing our school for your child, I would love to show you our children working hard in classrooms and outdoor areas from Nursery through to year six. I’d like to show you our additional facilities such as our sensory room filled with calming lights and sensory experiences and our newly built and furnished ‘Roundhouse’ which provides a very special pastoral space, our extensive grounds and gardening areas including our biodome. We do all we can to serve our community, working in partnership with parents and families. We know that a child’s 8 years of Primary school represent a very special journey – we’re here throughout to celebrate their successes, solve problems and provide high quality education and care for every day of their Primary School life.

I hope that you find our school website helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact our school office for any additional information you require. Our school Twitter provides a really good reflection of day to day school life and is added to frequently so follow us on @NorthowramPS to see our school values and vision in action!
